A little chat we had with Joy of HotJoyRide.Com TooSquare: Your site, www.hotjoyride.com, is laid out nicely. Do you do the work yourself? JOY: Well, thanks! Yep, I do everything myself, with the occasional help from the boy-toy, hehe! I spend quite a bit of time on it, almost daily.
JOY: Well, I have a small Web site business, creating
mainstream sites for small local companies. My site is more of a hobby
that takes up a lot of my time, lol! If my daytime clients only knew... TS: Haha! Well it shows, the design is excellent. You're
from the south, you say? Any particular area? JOY: I'm from North Carolina and live near Raleigh -
hey, now you're already getting out my secrets! :-) I grew up here
and have remained in the general area. TS: I assume it's pretty cool (since you've lived there
a while). What do you do around there when you're off the cam or not
at your other job? JOY: It really is a nice area - not too big but plenty
to see and do. I enjoy the basics, like going out to dinner at a nice
romantic place or catching a movie, but I also love getting away to
the beach and playing softball far too much! I'm also very proud to
be the lone woman in a local Fantasy Football league - and I won!
ROTFL TS: You probably delivered quite a blow to the guys
on that one ... at my other job the men are real into their leagues. JOY: I think so, yes … very fanatical around here. It is a bit addictive though. TS: How did you get involved in the computer scene,
and how did that lead to cam work or erotic work? JOY: Well, I've always loved computers, and programmed
on my TRS-80 when I was young, lol! Once I really started surfing
the Net, I eventually got around to looking at the wicked adult world.
I stumbled across an amateur site one night with a girl I thought

- love NYC and Atlanta! TS: I can't imagine you being a tomboy. Have you always
had that figure? What are your measurements? JOY: ROTFL! I was a beanpole until about age 14 and
then all hell broke loose! My dad forbade me to wear miniskirts once

the truth is ... they feel real, they look real, and I've been told
they taste completely real! LOL! TS: What kind of work did you do before messing with
computers? Also, what about your psychology degree? JOY: I worked my way through school at a bank, and then
afterwards I job-hopped between being a makeup artist for a large
cosmetics company and selling real estate, actually. And yes, I have
degrees in both psychology and philosophy - not really useful for
getting a real job! LOL! TS: Yeah, but it's fun to examine and screw with peoples'
heads! TS: So, what age are you now (or close)? JOY: Oh, I'm 31 now ... most people guess younger, but
I actually like my age (most of the time) and I still get carded when
I go out clubbing! TS: I love getting carded!! Makes me feel so fresh still
... people still think I'm 20 and I'm actually 33. JOY: I saw your picture - you do look a lot younger
than that! (And I'm not just kissing ass ...) TS: So, 15 - a great prom date, 19 - nude photos; when
did the site start? JOY: Do you see a pattern?
Hehe! The site officially went online in July of '98 - wow, it doesn't
seem like that long ago actually. And I'm wondering what I'll be doing
in four more years! LOL TS: Have you seen a change in your visitors over the
years? It seems that adult content is more acceptable now and people
are more used to it. JOY: It's funny you ask that ... I was thinking about
the history of my site before the interview and remembering that when
I first started out, it was more of a "single girl" site,
with really very little hardcore content overall - lots of young,
naive guys surfing. But lately I get a lot more couples that buy a
membership, come to the live shows and chat - and I think that's awesome,
really! I mean, sex can be fun and exciting and we should all just
get over our hang-ups and enjoy it! JOY: (Stepping off my soapbox now!) TS: Who does your photo work? I've only seen previews,
but is the hard stuff you and your boyfriend? Or is it another cam
person you work with as a team? JOY: Well, the hi-res photos are taken by Hap (my boy-toy/husband)
and I handle most of the camera work for the live shows myself. I
wish we had a sexy female cameraperson - you know, who could jump
in sometimes! LOL! TS: Cool! Hahah ... sounds like a dream job for some
lucky lady!! JOY: Indeed - if anyone is interested... lol! OK, I'm
serious! :) TS: What equipment do you use, approximately how much
bandwidth, etc., does your site take up … the tech info! JOY: Well, I use a Sony Hi8 Video camera, and Olympus
Digital camera - we have four computers around the house (including
a laptop) with a cable connection for the streaming video. I have
over 200 megs of content and I use, hmmm … maybe 30-50 gigs of
bandwidth per month. TS: $$$ JOY: Yeah, it can add up quickly, that's true. We added
the hardware over the last few years, so it's not all been at once,
and the bandwidth is manageable. The most fun "expense"
is buying lingerie and toys - what a cool tax write-off! LOL TS: How is your sex life outside the site, or has it
basically merged together? JOY: I wouldn't say it's merged, though there is sometimes
a crossover. I refuse to have sex before a show! LOL! No, I'm kidding,
we enjoy a very active sex life - and the site itself adds another
dimension. It's very erotic to have sex on camera and know hundreds
of people are watching! It just feels sexy and naughty and really

with the idea of dancing. I have always wanted to get up on stage

No films, either, except for my own little home productions, though
I have been approached several times about doing them. I prefer maintaining
the control of my content and where it goes. TS: Does your site pay the bills? I've met many girls
who make a small amount, but your site seems to offer harder content. JOY: Yes, it pays for itself and then some. I will be
honest and say I'm not getting rich off it (yet - LOL!), but it does
provide the means for some fun trips to Cancun, etc., and it adds
quite a bit to my everyday income. But I'm not really much of a saver,
so I manage to spend it well, too! LOL TS: Save? What's that? JOY: Exactly! TS: Just a few more questions… JOY: Cool - have I bored you yet? ;) TS: Not at all! I love a good typist ... oolala! JOY: Hehe! If you think I'm good at typing, you should
see what else I can do with my hands! LOL (sorry, it's the bourbon,
honest!). TS: Do you have any friends in the cam world, have you
had problems? I hear some stories about the girls stealing content,
designs, etc. JOY: Well, unfortunately that's the nature of the business
sometimes. Yes, I do have a few friends I've met online - and they
are very cool! I've had my share of trouble with people stealing content
and even had a girl's Webmaster steal my bio, of all things! LOL!
But for the most part, it's been a really wild and exciting experience.
I'm a lot less naive about people than I was four years ago, but that's
life, I suppose. It's really interesting to get to know other people
in this business and realize they are just normal, everyday people
who happen to enjoy good porn! LOL JOY: I try to stay out of the drama stuff and concentrate
on creating a quality site and of course, on having fun while I'm
doing it! TS: You have a lot of recurring visitors. What's that
like? JOY: Yes, it's wild to me and yet I think I work really
hard on retaining my members and keeping them happy. I love hearing
from them through e-mail and chatting with them online, and I have
gotten to know some of them very well. There are lots of really great
people out there! :-) TS: Have you had any problems of note? Any memorable
assholes? JOY: Oh, there's always the occasional jerk here and
there, and I have had a very small number of guys who feel the need
to write angry e-mails with no real point. But for the most part,
I get lots of positive feedback and comments. There are also the few
guys who get a little confused about where the line between fantasy
and reality is, but it's not been a big problem. And I've never gotten
one of those angry religious e-mails I often hear about, so I've been
lucky there! TS: My mom got a bad one from an eBay user ... she was
selling a WTC book when the bombings took place and this guy sent
a real nasty e-mail, religious of course. JOY: Wow, that's awful. I can tell you from my own experience,
eBay has some angry people hanging around that site! Whew! I'd prefer
to have a yard sale that started at 7 a.m. every Sunday than to sell
anything else there! LOL TS: As far as your site goes, what can a person expect
if they join up? JOY: I'm so glad you asked! ;) Loads of hi-res photo
sets and video clips that range from sensual teases to hardcore action.
One of the best features, in my opinion, is my weekly live show. It
uses really high-quality streaming video with audio and I really try
to get creative with themes as well as positions! LOL! There are over
60 live shows a week from all the girls on the cam network itself,
so there's enough there to keep you plenty "busy!" I also
have a cool collection of erotic stories that were written by my members
themselves ... very cool, I think! TS: Wow, that is quite a schedule ... people definitely
won't be disappointed!!! TS: What's your favorite band? JOY: Of all time? Hmmm ... oh, don't typecast me, but
... I like old stuff, like the Eagles or Aerosmith. LOL! But as far
as music in general goes, I worship Madonna, love Sade and enjoy a
good jazz CD. :) TS: Favorite place to eat? JOY: A little Italian restaurant nearby where they only

from behind! TS: Favorite film/TV show? JOY: Film - Dangerous Liaisons; TV show - Sex and the
City. TS: That show is great, although I am still hooked on

I just think sex doesn't have to be something you feel ashamed about
